Buddhist Meditation in Newcastle upon Tyne
"Until now we have cherished ourself above all others, and for as long as we
continue to do this our suffering will never end. However, if we learn to
cherish all beings more than ourself we shall soon enjoy the bliss of
enlightenment."
- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Compassion Buddhist Centre is a non profit organisation that was founded by Geshe
Kelsang Gyatso in Newcastle in 1996. It is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition -
International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU).
We run study programs and meditation classes as well as various special events
throughout the year. We also hold regular chanted meditations and retreats.
On the move...
Compassion Centre have moved a few doors up the hill to no 2 Station Road.
We have taken over what used to be Steel's Cycles. The new premises gives us more space, which is badly needed as we have been bursting at the seams at recent day courses. Volunteers have been working very hard over the past month to prepare the shrine, meditation space and communal areas. A big thanks to all. Pictures of the new venue will be posted here over the next couple of days.
Please feel free to drop in any time. The shop is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.
